Why Choose a Music School in the Upper East Side: Discover La Maison School of Music

Piano Classroom Townhouse Upper-East-Side - La Maison School of Music

Music education is often seen as a series of technical lessons, repeated week after week. And yet, we believe it can, and should, be much more than that. This belief is what led us to create La Maison School of Music, right in the heart of the Upper East Side.

Here, the piano becomes a language. A way to express yourself, a tool for personal development and a form of freedom. And it all starts with a space, a method and an approach designed with care.

A unique space, designed as a refuge

We chose to establish our school in a spacious five-story Upper East Side townhouse, filled with natural light, a rooftop, a terrace, and even an indoor waterfall. This wasn’t just an aesthetic decision, it reflects a deeper intention: to offer a calm, safe and inspiring environment, ideal for children and adults alike.

The space feels more like a peaceful retreat than a traditional classroom, a place where learning happens in serenity, focus and enjoyment. In a city like New York, this kind of setting is rare. It allows us to offer a premium and deeply human piano learning experience in a setting that supports it.

A method shaped by multiple cultures

Our founder, Héloïse Pieaud, studied in music conservatories in Paris, Moscow and New York. Over the years, she was able to observe a wide variety of educational approaches, each with its strengths and its limitations.

Drawing on the best of each tradition, she built the programs offered at La Maison. Every piano class is structured and written by her, so that students of all ages can progress at their own rhythm, within a clear and coherent framework.

Our goal isn’t to make students dependent on a teacher. It’s to guide them toward musical independence, confidence, and expression. Music is another language and like any language, it’s best learned with the right tools, consistency, and meaning.

Ages 4–6: Awakening curiosity with “Soon to Sound”

Our Soon to Sound program welcomes children ages 4 to 6 into a world of emotional and sensory discovery. At this age, it’s not yet about “playing piano” in a technical sense, but about awakening a joyful connection to music, listening, identifying instruments, playing with rhythm, breathing, movement and expression.

Our aim is not early performance, but to plant the seed for a lasting love of music. The program is structured, age-appropriate, and play-based, with a variety of engaging activities (including, for example, a fun and colorful homework box designed to connect the class experience to home life).

Ages 6–15: Building real musical culture with “Made to Play”

With our Made to Play program, children and teens follow a complete path that combines private piano lessons and group classes: music theory, history, listening, composition, staging and more. Each year is built around a theme that encourages creativity while reinforcing core skills.

Students receive an exclusive educational book written by Héloïse, which supports their learning throughout the year, helping them grow with clarity and enjoyment.

This program is ideal for both beginners and students with prior experience, offering a well-rounded and structured piano school experience in NYC, serious, joyful and deeply supportive.

For adults: “Never Too Late”, because it really never is

Many adults tell us they’ve always wanted to play the piano but never found the right time, space, or encouragement. That’s why we created Never Too Late, a program specifically designed for adults (whether beginners or returning learners) who want to take piano lessons in New York in a relaxed and flexible environment.

Lessons are fully personalized, pressure-free and shaped around each person’s pace and preferences. Every adult student also receives a dedicated pedagogical book developed by La Maison, designed to support independent learning and a deeper understanding of the music they play.

What makes us different

We don’t claim to reinvent music education. But we’ve made deliberate choices to do things differently, in line with what we’ve always believed in: a modern, thoughtful, and human music school.

  • Programs designed as full journeys, not disconnected lessons
  • A contemporary vision of music learning that speaks to all generations
  • A calm, elegant, and focused environment in an Upper East Side townhouse
  • Educational tools created in-house, from homework boxes for young children to structured workbooks for older students
  • And the desire to share one simple idea: music is another language, and it is within reach for everyone.
